Paulownia Wood Blocks for Fishing Lures

from $1.75

Paulownia blocks for making your own fishing lures. Paulownia is one of the lightest hardwoods there is, at around 280 kg/m³: about twice the weight of balsa and half the weight of pine. That makes it a favourite for hand-carved and turned lures. It floats well, carves and sands cleanly, and has enough weight and toughness to cast further and handle more knocks than balsa.

Choose a size and quantity from the menus above. Packs of 10 work out cheaper per block. Custom sizes are available on request: email info@paulowniatimber.com.au with the sizes and quantities you need.

  • 25 x 25 x 125mm: small minnows, bibbed hardbodies and stickbaits for bream, bass, trout and flathead

  • 38 x 38 x 150mm: poppers, stickbaits and medium hardbodies for flathead, tailor, barramundi and kingfish

  • 50 x 50 x 240mm: large poppers and surface lures for Murray cod, GTs and other big fish

  • Plantation-grown Paulownia

  • Light, buoyant and easy to carve, turn and sand

  • Approximate weight per block: 22g, 60g and 170g (natural timber varies a little)

  • Price includes GST

Finishing tips: like all light timbers, Paulownia should be sealed before painting so it doesn't take on water. Seal with epoxy or a penetrating sealer, then prime, paint and clear-coat. Through-wiring gives the strongest hook and tow-point fixing on larger lures.

For schools: lure making is a great Design and Technology project. Packs of 10 make class sets easy, and we can supply larger quantities for whole classes. Email info@paulowniatimber.com.au for a quote.

Pickup and delivery: sent by Australia Post, with postage calculated at checkout, or collect free from Hornsby, NSW. See shipping and delivery.
